Kan's Awesome Music and Me Entry

 Music and Me ♡

Hello! My name is Kanaria. I major in music, with voice being my primary instrument! Music has always been something very special and important in my life. I began playing the clarinet, switching to violin, and eventually settling with singing! I've always liked to create and listen to many different genres of music and be open to the many possibilities that music can provide. :)

Now listen.. when I say I listen to anything, I MEAN IT!!! This includes music from other countries.. that are in different languages. Some may think this is a bit peculiar or weird, which is okay! But I'm #Real so you have to agree with me anyway.

Let's start off with a song that I'm currently feeling at the moment!

One of my top favorite genres is K-pop/K-r&b! But I specifically want to touch on one of my favorite Korean solo artists, Baekhyun! :)

Baekhyun debuted under SM Entertainment in a group called EXO in 2012. He eventually began to release solo music, releasing his first solo album named 'City Lights' on July 10, 2019. Now in my case, I began to dabble in the world of K-pop in the latter half of 2018, so Baekhyun was already well into his career! I listened to his first solo album and fell in love. Like seriously. Y'all don't get me. Not only are his powerhouse vocals stunning, but I also loved the fact that he is primarily R&B-focused in his solo work. Being black, I grew up with R&B my whole life, so it was refreshing to see other individuals dive into the richness of the genre and do it amazingly.

The specific song that I have placed here is called "Cry for Love" This was a part of his 3rd solo album titled 'Bambi', released on March 30, 2021. This is my TOP song from him. He really captured the emotion perfectly in this song, and it is absolutely easy on the ears. I truly do recommend listening to this a bit. It's such a gorgeous, yet emotional song.

Now I let's dive into a song that is very important to me.

I never thought I would find myself holding an aria very close to my heart, but here we are. (also if you look at my actual blog URL it says kansingsaria and that is a play on my name because my name is Kanaria and I sing arias because I sing. Please call me awesome.)

I LOVE THIS PIECE SO MUCH YOU DON'T GET IT.  This piece actually made me feel like I was finally making progress in my vocal development. (thank you Dr. Lyle) I hadn't taken one voice lesson before coming to Converse. Not a single one. I was going in blind, but I knew I wanted to classically sing, so I was gonna make it work one way or another. Anyway, I received this piece in the Spring term of this year, and it was absolutely gorgeous. I loved how challenging it was, and it really helped repair my love for music and singing, as it was becoming very hard to stick with it at the time. Take a listen! It is lovely :)

♡

Okay, now let's talk about some music that I don't connect to... sigh..

Now, this might sound sooooo contradictory, because I literally said I love ALL kinds of music. But for some reason, I can't exactly connect with COUNTRY MUSIC. *crickets* Anyway... here is an example.

I don't get it.. I don't know why. A lot of people that I know LOVE Morgan Wallen. like A LOT of people. but for some reason, it just doesn't stick with me. Plus this song in particular is just extremely corny to me (that was the nicest way to put it). BUT on the other hand, I can understand why people like his music, and this song especially. He is very capable of making catchy tunes! I just can't get with it, though. It' just not giving.

YAYYYYYYYYY! We have made it to the end. I really hope that this entry was entertaining and opened you up to some new music! :))

  1. I also like listening to music from other countries! I haven't listened to any Korean music, so I'm glad you suggested Baekhyun. He has an awesome voice. I actually got chills during the high notes in the bridge when he sings "I cry for love." I thought it was interesting how the background music sounded muted in the beginning of the song; it was a nice detail. I also liked the little violin part in the second verse. Thanks for the suggestion!

  2. Kanaria, I love your blog and its setup! My younger sister is actually really obsessed with K-pop music and Korean culture in general, so I thank her for my exposure to it. I do enjoy listening to K-pop sometimes and can respect Baekhyun's amazing talent! Those riffs especially...you can tell he is a master at what he does. The second song, Si Tu Le Veux...wow. It is so beautiful. If I am remembering correctly, did you sing that in a recital last semester? The piano accompaniment gracefully colors the pure melody in such a pleasing way! It is truly a magical, ethereal sounding piece of music, and I love that it was so personal to your own journey in singing. Thank you for sharing!

  3. Hi Kanaria! I do think that one song by Morgan Wallen is overplayed definitely, but I have so much love for country music. I want to share some more country artists that you might like. For more pop country, I like listening to Parker McCollum, Megan Moroney, and Kelsea Ballerini! When it comes to more classic sounding country music, I gravitate towards Cody Johnson and Zach Top, and for older country, George Jones. I hope you give one of these artists' songs a try! These songs could be perfect for a nice drive somewhere.

  4. Hey girl. I am with you with the meaningful music. Before coming to Converse I also didn't have voice lessons and I struggled so much with getting the right technique and really connecting with pieces. I remember you singing this during a seminar and it was like a breath of fresh air. It was so beautiful and amazing for your voice. Also I agree with the Morgan Wallan one. That one is kind of just, not my vibe either. But some of his other songs are pretty good.

  5. Hey! your love for music is amazing. I bet you're really enjoying this class so far and all the selections that we're being exposed to. I definately understand country music not being your favorite. It's definately something you have to grow up on to enjoy.
